Information for playing BF1942

These downloads are necessary in order to play Battlefield 1942. Install steps 1-3 in order.

STEP 1:

First is the main game itself. Chances are you already have this installed, but you can download it from here and install it if you don't:

STEP 2:

Battlefield 1942 uses a server browser (in-game menu MULTIPLAY->INTERNET->UPDATE) to find available servers to play on. This was powered by a master server run by gaming site GameSpy until they shut down in 2014, causing everyone's server browsers to freeze up. The BF1942 community has created a replacement master server, but using it requires a patch to the BF1942 program. This download provides the latest version of that patch. The patch also includes several other enhancements to the game:

STEP 3:

The TGE map rotation now includes maps from the official expansion packs, as well as unofficial mods and map packs. If you want to keep playing when these maps come up, you'll need to have them installed ahead of time. Otherwise you'll get the hated "MAP NOT FOUND" error message and will have to sit that one out while you frantically download what you need.

To install these maps first you'll need to get them. You might be able to find old disks, or download them from an archive. If you can't do that you can download them here:

• Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII (SW) [instructions]
  
• Battlefield 1942: The Road to Rome (RtR) [instructions]
• Desert Combat and Desert Combat Final (in the following order):
  1. Desert Combat 0.7 (DC) [just run the .exe file to install]
     
  2. Desert Combat Final (DCF) [just run the .exe file to install]
     
• SiMPLE BF1942 New Maps (NM) [just run the .exe file to install]
  

Most of these are fairly simple to install (just run the .exe file), but click on the instructions links for the others if you need help.
